Ray Of Light

Did you watch the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame awards show this year? I caught the last half of it. A pretty damn dull show with possibly the least interesting group of inductees to date. Highlights? Madonna, of course. Anytime Madonna appears to be nervous makes for good TV. You don't see that a lot. I'm not sure she belongs in the RnRHoF - but love her or hate her - she's had a hell of a career and has outlasted just about everyone. Good for her.

But the real highlight was after Madonna's speech. Most of the inducted artists went on to perform a song or two after their acceptance speech. If they were too old, or were missing too many members, they got someone else to perform fairly faithful renditions of their songs. But not Madonna. She decided not to perform. So who did they get to sing a couple of Madonna songs???

The mother-f*#king Stooges.

That's right. Iggy-f*#king-Pop belting out "Burning Up" and "Ray of Light" in all his shirtless, writhing glory. The songs were nearly unrecognizable. Iggy jumping into the shocked audience, sitting on Justin Timberlake's lap and singing directly to Madonna, about 6 inches from her face. I'm pretty sure at one point Iggy's crotch was about a foot away from Clive Davis' head. I'll have to watch it again to make sure it's Clive.

I'm not sure who set that up, but it was brilliant.

Update:

Comments:
I did not watch the ceremony. But now that you say Iggy performed for Madonna, I've gotta see if it's on YouTube!

I flipped to it around 11 I think, hoping for the Stooges. Instead Billy Joel rambled for what seemed like an eternity.

I went back to Flavor of Love, because I'm classy like that.

Wow! That is really strange. I had no idea. Don't pay much attention to the Hall of Fame. I'll have to U Tube that too...

For the record, I think it's a travesty that they would put crap like Madonna in the Hall, esp when so many great artists will never get in.

Madonna's whole career has consisted of cranking out the lowest common demoninator dance crap that she thinks will move the most units that year. She's successful, but so is Walmart.

Um, it's cool about Iggy. But I just found the video. It's not exactly his finest hour. :P

Wow! I love Iggy and the concept was great but whoa in reality that performance was disturbing and disgusting. His body, his body, oh my...it was not good. Then back stage rubbing his extended belly while talking with Madonna, too much.
