Random Early May Stuff
Let's see...what's new....
I caught Ratdog last week. Not the greatest show I've seen. Call me crazy, but when I go see Bob Weir, I'd like to see him sing some Bob Weir tunes. He sang a bunch of covers and a bunch of Grateful Dead songs that Jerry used to sing, but it was well into the second set before he sang anything that he actually wrote. Final score: 2 Weir songs 12 non-Weir songs. sheesh. That may be my last Ratdog show. Pics here. (I didn't take them.)
Saturday - Fun at the Eagle. I love when I can put money in the jukebox and my songs come on immediately. From what I recall, I played:
Dead Boys - Sonic Reducer (I was gonna play "Caught With The Meat In Your Mouth", but I figured nobody would get it)
New Order - Temptation
New York Dolls - Personality Crisis
Dead Milkmen - Instant Club Hit (You'll Dance To Anything)
The Pixies - Debaser
Ramones - I Just Wanna Have Something To Do
something by the Foo Fighters
and a couple others.
Good music makes all the difference in the world.
Speaking of which, I went CD shopping both yesterday and today:
Patti Smith - Wave (used)
Original Sinners - s/t (used)
New Order - Waiting For The Sirens' Call
Bloc Party - Silent Alarm
2 different R.E.M. "Electron Blue" singles
The Hold Steady - Separation Sunday
Got Dinosaur Jr. tickets through their presale. Bring your earplugs to that one. I saw them once about 20 years ago at the old 9:30 (I don't think they had added "Jr." yet) and it was easily the loudest show I've ever seen in my life. You've been warned.
I'm trying to convince the BF that we need to go to Philly to see the New York Dolls. His best friend is up there, so if he's around, I think it'll be an easy sell. I should probably get a ticket soon though.
There's a picture of me in MW this week.
The Erasure show I was going to has been moved to 6/6.
I'm not-so-patiently waiting to hear if we're getting the home-equity loan required to redo our pool.
I got Pixies tickets. I'm in one of those new "FLR" sections at Merriweather. My seats will either be fantastic, or painfully far off to the side.
I told someone off at work yesterday. I never do that.
Decemberists Friday. I think I got the last ticket before it sold out. The show is being streamed on NPR.
I'm working out regularly again and I'm loving it. It always takes me a while to get back into it, but once I do, I'm pretty dedicated. For now anyway. One good week of shows to throw me off-track and I'm screwed.
Sean pointed out this disturbingly hilarious video. I just don't know what to say about that one. It made my week though. It's hard to stay cranky after watching that.
