ahhhh - a day to myself. I can't remember the last time I had one of these. Very nice. I can just lay around, read, catch up on all the CDs I've bought that I haven't had time to listen to...I can jump around and play all the air guitar I want - lol. The boyfriend is out with some old college buddies watching the Daytona 500. I'm just sitting around being lazy today.

My bf is officially a licensed real estate agent now. We went out to celebrate both that and Valentines Day on Friday. Drinks at JR's and dinner at DIK. Haven't been to JR's in at least 6 months. I remember in the late 80's when that place would be jam-packed during Friday happy hours. Not the case any more. Plenty of room to hang out without feeling completely crushed. Nice. We may have to try that again. We ended up getting each other flowers for Valentines Day, despite the fact that we both decided that we weren't going to get each other anything. awwww.

Saw the Shins last Tuesday at the Black Cat. Lots of fun, but nothing incredible. Picked up tickets for Broken Social Scene, The Decemberists and British Sea Power. March is going to be a busy month. The BF wants to see Dickey Betts and Washington Social Club during his birthday weekend at the start of March. That works for me.

Should have gone to the gym today, but skipped it. I'm so bad. Maybe I'll hop on the treadmill when I'm done here.

Trying to get my blog advertised so it shows up on Google, but that doesn't seem to be working. Need to look into other ways to make it's existence known.

dammit!

God dammit. I was all ready to hit "publish" and my damn browser locked up on me and I lost it all. Crap. Not that I had anything terribly interesting to say today anyway. Just a summary of my day.

I hit the treadmill for about a half-hour this morning. Music included a mix of Black Flag, Husker Du, The Dismemberment Plan and The Undertones. Apparently, my CD player didn't care to play much from the Undertones this morning. Sorry Feargal. I understand The Undertones are touring without Feargal Sharkey. I'm curious how they sound, but I'm not sure I want to pay $15 to see them without him.

Cleaned the basement, ate lunch and off to the gym. Nice to be outside with the sun for a change. I'm tired of this weather. Too wet. Too grey. Not much in the way of inspiration to be seen at the gym, but it felt good to workout. I always hate heading to Bethesda to go to the gym, but I always feel awesome after I go. Today was no exception.

Made an awesome shrimp and veggies dinner for the bf. Yummy. He's currently downstairs watching the Bud Shootout. He's been patiently waiting for racing season to start. He's like a kid waiting for Xmas morning. If Comcast ever gets the Speed Channel, he'll never leave the house.

We never made it out Thursday (or Friday for that matter) because of the crappy weather. We may head out tonight. Most likely The Eagle. Not my first choice, but we're still trying to celebrate him passing his real estate exams, so it's up to him where we go. Personally, I'd rather head to the Red Room at the Black Cat, or maybe to Blowoff, if that's happening tonight.

Other music I listened to today: The Shins - Chutes Too Narrow, Super Furry Animals - Fuzzy Logic, Gray Matter - Food For Thought, The Walkmen - Bows and Arrows.

Now Playing: The Stiff Box, Disc 1

So it looks like we've got gay marriage in MA. For a while, at least. I'm very excited about this, but I hope it doesn't backfire and push the move for a federal Constitutional amendment. Man, that would suck. I don't have a lot of interest in "marrying" my partner, even though we're very much in love and commited to each other. The whole idea of marriage just seems to push the whole "we're just like straight-people" thing. Neither of us have any real religious or formal spiritual convictions. The only attraction marriage has to us is the big party that accompanies it and all of the legal things that go along with it. Oh, and presents :-) Civil unions, on the other hand...we'd be the first in line.

I've very tired of hearing about the "threat" of gay marriage and the "sanctity" of hetero marriage. Neither of those things exist. And that's not the fault of gay people.

Went to a Sun Microsystems seminar/sales pitch today. zzzzzzz. Beat being in the office though. Even managed to skip out during lunch and hit the gym.

Bought tickets to see The Walkmen and Death Cab For Cutie (both shows at the 9:30 Club), so those are now definites. Maybe I'll stop by the Black Cat on my way downtown tonight to pick up tickets for some shows there. No service charges that way.

My SO passed his test to get his real estate license today. We'll probably go celebrate tonight. Probably at the Green Lantern. Hard to argue with free drinks and half-naked men. Maybe I'll get lucky when we get home. ;-)

First post... Not sure why I decided I needed a blog, but what the hell. I guess I was inspired by Bob Mould's blog and thought - hey - I can do that.

A little about me...I'm 38 years old...Unix admin...gay...music freak. In a long-term relationship for 8 years. The anniversary of our first date is next week. awwww. We actually keep forgetting the exact date, but my SO never forgets what weekend it is, because we met the Saturday night before the Daytona 500. How romantic - lol.

I live just outside of Washington, DC, which I love. Lots to do. Lots of music around. I love seeing live music. I'll go see anyone. I've seen everyone from The Grateful Dead to Black Flag to Yo Yo Ma. Yes, another gay-deadhead-punk. Trying to get back into some local DC indie-type bands. Current faves include Washington Social Club and The Carlsonics. Any other recommendations? Upcoming shows include The Shins and (probably) Super Furry Animals, The Walkmen and British Sea Power. Decahedron sounds interesting. I never got to see Frodus. They're playing at The Black Cat on 2/24.

I spend WAY too much money on CDs. That's gotta stop. Although if you wanna recommend something...

Don't hang-out much in the gay scene. Can't stand most of the bars. The music drives me nuts. Downstairs at The Eagle is cool and the Green Lantern on Thursdays can be fun. I really need to checkout Blowoff at 9:30 one night.

I workout at Washington Sports Club, although I'm not as disciplined as I should be. Still, I'm not doing so bad for an old man - lol.

Graduated from Penn State Penn State in '87 with a BS in Math. Yeah - I'm a geek. I hope their football team does better this year. I'd hate to see JoePa go out with such a bum record.

hmmm - that's enough for now. More later.

Now Playing: The Walkmen - Bows and Arrows
